DEAR DR. PUTNAM


For twenty-three years you’ve put up with me

it’s hard to believe, but true

You took me on as a patient

without even having a clue!

Just how your brain would be tested

and how much faith I would put in you.

It’s been quite a ride, these twenty-three years,

a challenge at every turn.

One day I’m half dead, the next quite alive!

every day something new to learn.

With your medical skills and your knowledge,

and God’s grace to get us through,

Together we’ve forged the lows and the highs,

on a wing and a prayer it’s true!

One day it’s potassium depleted so low

from vomiting ten times a day.

Three liters of fluid with K added to it,

Urgent Care for a three hour stay!

Injections in trigger points twice a week

for pain that just doesn’t quit,

The spine, the neck, the forehead,

say’s Dr. P, “this will hurt just a bit!!!”

Seizures, Comas, even a Stroke,

long hospital stays, quite a few!

But wouldn’t you know it, one day I would

show up, pop in just to say, “guess who?”

I remember one day when you said to me,

“I don’t know if I could do it?!!”

I got news for you Doc, the person you are

Your faith would get you through it!
