sleeping with the dog!

This past week I have had a little trouble sleeping. Seems like as you get older its much harder to get your self back to normal after something like even a "minor surgery." I have a 6 year old pekingese that is spoiled worst then any child I have ever seen. She knows something is wrong with me so she is by my side night and day. I'm so greatful for her loyalty but sometimes I "need a little space."
Dusty sleeps in bed with me usually flush up against my body. She is part of the pug family so she has that pushed in face. This causes her breathing problems so all night long she snores! She snores LOUD! So not only am I dealing with the effects of the surgery on my sleep I am dealing with Dusty! I can't kick her out of the bad because she never slept anywhere else at night. With her, either up against my body,or crawling up on top of my stomach I don't have much room on a queen size bed. So,I am stuck lying in one place all night long listening to her God-awful snoring trying to get at least some ZZZZZ'S!
I took her to the vet to have her breathing checked out. She had already had one "face lift" when she was a year old to get some of the skin flap that these dogs have removed in an attempt to help her breath. Now they want to do another one to the tune of about 10K! I can't afford that. So the vet had another suggestion. Apparently the FDA has approved a drug already on the market to be used for a completely different purpose than it was originally put on the market for. They have found that this drug is instrumental in the care of people with lung problems and since animals use many of the same drugs as humans he felt it would be wise to try it on Dusty. When he handed me the prescription it had the generic name on it so at first I wasn't aware of what it really was. Naturally I had questions. With a completely straight face, (I'm not sure how!) he told me the brand name of the drug. He was prescribing VIAGRA for my dog!!! I'm so glad Dusty is a female! I went to the pharmacy to have the Rx filled and almost went into cardiac arrest! For a 30 day supply of VIAGRA the cost is $505.00!!!!! For my dog?!!! I guess I'll be dealing with her snoring. hopefully for a long time to come! She really is this "woman's" best friend!
